Bolivar, Mo. — Southwest Baptist Softball wrapped up its weekend series on Sunday with a doubleheader against the Lewis Flyers. The Bearcats produced several strong offensive moments, including a three-run home run from
Jacie Frencken and a pair of multi-RBI swings from
Keeley Elsea across the two contests, but Lewis capitalized on timely hitting to take both games.
Game One
Lewis opened the day with three runs in the first inning, taking advantage of a bunt single and an SBU error. The Bearcats responded immediately in the second. After
Ashley Gruben singled and
Lucy Sadewhite walked,
Keeley Elsea delivered a two-run double into left field to bring the game within one.
SBU continued creating opportunities, including a bunt single and stolen base from
Joscelyn Bennett, plus another by
Jalaya Ries, but the Flyers made key defensive plays to prevent additional runs. Lewis broke through with two runs in the sixth and added two more in the seventh to seal the 7–2 decision.
Elsea led SBU with a double and two RBI, while Gruben, Frencken, Ries, and Bennett each tallied a hit.
Shalie Wooden, Lindsay Essary, and

Game Two
Lewis jumped ahead early again, scoring five all in the third for a 5–0 lead. The Bearcats broke through in the fifth with their biggest swing of the afternoon. After singles from

Jacie Frencken stepped in and launched a three-run homerun to left, her second long ball of the season, to bring SBU within 6–3.
On defense,
Joscelyn Bennett was outstanding at shortstop, recording seven putouts and several key assists to keep the game competitive. SBU's offense continued to pressure the Flyers through the middle innings, with

Ashley Gruben adding a multi-hit game, and
Jalaya Ries singling and stealing a base in the fifth. However, Lewis extended their lead with two more runs in the seventh to push the margin to 8–3.
Gruben finished with two hits, Sadewhite and Minton each added a single, and Frencken recorded all three SBU RBI with her fifth-inning homer.
