Indianapolis, Ind. – The Bearcats of Southwest Baptist University's (SBU) men's track and field team finished up competition at the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Championships on Sunday. The team ended with 68 points, taking fifth place in the entire competition, and winning the sportsmanship award for the indoor season.
Headlines during Sunday's competitions for Southwest Baptist were made by the team's two gold medalists, junior
Angel Dickerson and freshman
Marcus Jones. Dickerson took first place in the 60-meter dash earning a national mark, setting a personal best time, and running the second fastest time in SBU history with a time of 6.72 seconds. Dickerson's gold medal represented his second medal of the weekend, making him the only Bearcat man to medal twice at the GLVC Championships. Jones found his success in the 200-meter dash, finishing with a personal best time of 21.49 seconds and breaking the GLVC record for the 2nd time this weekend. This was good enough for a national mark.
Two other Bearcats were able to finish on the podium during Sunday's competitions. The first of the two to do so was junior
Andrew Rhoades, who took second place in the heptathlon with 4,820 points. This score represented a personal best for Rhoades as he moved into second place all-time for SBU. Rhoades' silver medal performance was capped off with a Sunday that saw him place third in the 60-meter hurdles, fourth in the pole vault, and first in the 1000-meter run. Southwest Baptist's other athlete to reach the podium was graduate student
Tyler Hart, who took third in the shot put. Hart threw the shot a distance of 15.86 meters, setting a personal best and moving into second place all-time in SBU's standings.
