Box Score 2 Edmond, OK. —SBU women's tennis began their season Friday and Saturday against two different opponents. They were unable to pick up a victory in either match but found highlights early into the season. On Friday, the ladies fell to University of Central Oklahoma 1-6 and fell by the same score Saturday afternoon to the #18 team in the Nation University of Texas at Tyler.
Not every match went in favor of SBU, but the results of against Central Oklahoma showed a promising future for this year's season. Within the doubles portion SBU managed to score some games in each match. The Bearcats showed even better results while playing singles. In four of five matches SBU won multiple games. Two specific games stood out above the rest.
Sophomore
Maria Clara Zotti had a notable performance scoring three points in the first game and taking the second game of the match to the very end scoring six points to her opponents seven. Another standout came from freshman
Isabella Canedo. Canedo won the first game handily in six to her opponents four, lost the second game to a reversal of that score, then won the 3
rd set tiebreaker to bring home SBU's sole victory of the day.
On Saturday, the Bearcats held strong against another tough opponent, this time winning a set in doubles. Clara Zotti and
Sammi Liu won their doubles game 6-4 in the #2 spot, but the other two spots fell handing the Patriots the double point.
Clara Zotti continued her strong weekend being the only Bearcat to win a point on the day. She handled her match in only two sets at the #3 spot winning 6-4 and 6-3. Liu took her match to a third set after winning the first but fell in the tiebreaker 4-10.
Women's tennis will be back in Edmond Oklahoma tomorrow to face Ouachita Baptist on February 14
