Maryville, Mo. – Southwest Baptist University's men's track and field team returns from their separate competitions in Joplin and Maryville. Both the throwers, who competed at the Missouri Southern State University (MSSU) Open, and the rest of the team, who competed at the Northwest Missouri State (NWMS) Bearcat Invite, turned in solid performances this weekend.
 
The Winter Olympics began this week, and it must have inspired freshman Marcus Jones because he medaled twice at the NWMS Bearcat Invite. In the 200-meter invitational, Jones claimed the bronze medal with a time of 21.66 seconds. However, this was not Jones' best performance on the day as he took the gold medal in the 400-meter invitational, setting a personal best and hitting a national mark in the process with a time of 47.48 seconds.
 
Over in the MSSU Open, graduate student Tyler Hart completed a great day with two personal bests. First, in the shot put, Hart threw an impressive 15.23 meters, taking fourth in the competition and reaching second place in the all-time SBU leaderboard. In the weight throw, Hart launched the weight 16.37 meters, which was good enough for eighth place in the competition and third-best all-time for SBU.
 
The Bearcats' next meet will come in one week as they return to Pittsburg, Kansas for the third time this season to compete in the PSU Gorilla Classic. Competitions will begin on Friday, February 13 and conclude on Saturday, February 14.
