Indianapolis, IN. — The Bearcats men and women track and field team will head off this weekend to Indianapolis for a two day meet from Saturday the 27th to Sunday March 1st, to compete at the Indoor Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Championships. The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) currently has both teams ranked within the top five of the GLVC giving our Bearcats a darkhouse chance to claim a conference title.
Both teams have numerous athletes with chances to claim a podium finish at the Championship meet.
Stephanique Dean is a Bearcat with one of the biggest chances as she ranks top 12 in the Nation in two separate events (200m & 400m).
Lily Simmons will look to return with a high jump crown that she took two years ago.
On the men's side,
Marcus Jones enters with a strong chance to win in either the 200m or 400m, ranking 2nd entering these Championships in both. Having broke a school record numerous times this season,
Angel Dickerson is 2nd in the GLVC at the long jump, just .06 meters behind the top jumper. With strong performances from both Jones and Dickerson, they each are capable of 1st place finishes.
The conference meet will start at 9:00 on both Saturday and Sunday with field events. The track events will start at 4:00pm Saturday and 1:30pm on Sunday. The team is hoping to finish this indoor season strong, prepare for an amazing outdoor season, but most importantly to qualify a few more athletes for the NCAA national championships in Virginia the following week.
