Bolivar, Mo. — The Southwest Baptist University baseball team returns to the road this weekend as the Bearcats travel to Owensboro, Kentucky for a three-game series against Kentucky Wesleyan College.
SBU enters the series at 2–4 on the season after facing one of the toughest early tests in the country against nationally ranked University of Central Missouri. The Bearcats dropped both games in the series but gained valuable experience against top-tier Division II competition.
Kentucky Wesleyan comes into the weekend 4–3 overall and has been strong at home with a 3–1 record in Owensboro. The Panthers will look to defend their home field, while SBU aims to turn early-season growth into wins.
Offensively, junior
Ryan Ray has been red hot at the plate. Ray is batting .519 with two doubles and one home run and has yet to strike out through 27 at bats this season. His consistency at the top of the lineup has provided a spark for the Bearcats.
Senior
Raydley Legito is coming off a productive series, going 4-for-6 with a double and an RBI. Legito's veteran presence continues to steady the lineup as SBU looks to generate momentum.
On the mound,
Ryne Kaiser has established himself as a key piece of the pitching staff. The junior right-hander owns a 2.61 ERA with 12 strikeouts in 10.1 innings pitched and will be leaned on heavily this weekend.
The Bearcats and Panthers are scheduled to open the series Friday, February 20, with first pitch time to be announced. The series concludes Saturday, February 21, with a doubleheader. Game times are also to be announced.
