Evansville, Ind. – SBU men's and women's season completed their historic inaugural season Saturday at the GLVC Championships. The men finished the meet in 11
th place with 215 points, while the women finished in 10
th with 276 points.
"Really proud of how the team worked, whether there were wins or losses, the team continued to compete and give everything they had." Head Coach
Gavin Hagar said, "It was special for sure. It will be a week they will remember for the rest of their lives."
Friday was a breakthrough day for the Bearcats as six athletes made it to finals. The first of these to score for SBU was
Grace Simon in the 500-yard freestyle taking 21
st place. Shortly after,
Briley Larcom had the best finish for all women with a 17
th place in the 100-yard backstroke. Larcom added another top-24 finish on Saturday in the 200-yard back, dropping 1.83 seconds. Two Bearcat ladies earned points in the 200-yard fly as
Adilyn Henderson took 19
th and
Sofia Gonzalez finished in 22
nd.
On the guys side,
Brogan Meier had the best finish out of any Bearcat taking 13
th in the 100-yard backstroke. The very next day Meier nearly beat his best again with a 14
th place finish in the 200-yard backstroke, dropping 1.94 seconds from his entry time. Freshman
Tyler Sharp was the only other Bearcat male to place, getting 23
rd in the 100-yard back.
"It was beautiful to see the trials that bonded us all together throughout this five-day Championships." Hagar added, "So when we performed well it was that much more special."
