Bolivar, Mo. – The SBU women's volleyball team returned to the win column in dominant fashion Tuesday evening, sweeping Mission University inside the Meyer Sports Center. The Bearcats rolled to a 25-11, 25-22, 25-13 victory to improve to 11-6 overall on the season.
SBU controlled the match on both sides of the net, finishing with a .292 hitting percentage while holding Mission to just .091. The Bearcats were especially strong in the third set, recording 17 kills with just one error to hit an impressive .444 and close out the sweep. SBU finished the night with advantages in kills (40-27), aces (12-4), blocks (8-7), and digs (48-36).
Gabriela Dupree led the Bearcat attack with 12 kills while adding 11 digs for a double-double. Aubrie Fellmeth added six kills on a .385 hitting percentage, while Kailey Sexton recorded five kills and hit .500. Sexton also controlled the net with a match-high six blocks.
The Bearcats were dominant from the service line with 12 aces, led by Julia Marinesi, Melissa Patel, and Allie Hawk with three apiece. Patel also led the defensive effort with 14 digs, while Danika Mejico finished with 16 assists and Hawk added 15.
The victory moves SBU to 11-6 overall as the Bearcats turn their attention back toward GLVC play this Friday on the road at Quincy University with a start time of 6 p.m.
