Bolivar, Mo. – The SBU women's soccer team continued their strong stretch Saturday afternoon, defeating Upper Iowa University 2-0 at the SBU Soccer Field. The victory moves the Bearcats to 4-6-2 overall and 2-5-1 in GLVC play, extending their unbeaten streak to three.
SBU wasted little time taking control as Annabelle Shuler scored in the seventh minute off an assist from Juana Fernandez Calvo. The two switched roles in the 19th minute, with Fernandez Calvo finding the back of the net off a Shuler assist to give SBU a 2-0 advantage. Both players finished the afternoon with a goal and an assist.
The Bearcat defense took care of the rest, limiting Upper Iowa to six shots and just two on goal. Cece Alexander stopped both attempts to record the shutout, while SBU finished with a 15-6 advantage in total shots. The win gives the Bearcats victories in two of their last three matches while going unbeaten during that stretch.
SBU remains at home Wednesday, October 7, as they welcome William Jewell College to the SBU Soccer Field for a 4:00 p.m. kickoff.
