Sullivan Nets Career High 27 as Winning Streak Ends

Kansas City, Mo. – A four-game win streak came to an end for the SBU men's basketball team as they fell to the Rockhurst Hawks 78-87. This Sunday afternoon loss moves them to 8-5 (2-3 GLVC) overall.

Both teams held leads early in the game with the Hawks leading by as much as four until the Bearcats retook a one-point lead at the 14:00 minute mark. Back-to-back three pointers from Rockhurst's Micah Deaver handed them back the lead that they would soon extend to 10. As the Bearcats have been all season, they fought back bringing it to 26-27. Seven of those points came straight from junior guard Zac Reedus. Teams would then trade baskets before Rockhurst went on another run going up by 11. After 20 minutes SBU trailed 37-45.

Early into half two, Rockhurst retook a double-digit lead that would hold for a majority of the game. After SBU cut the deficit to eight points, the Hawks potent offense snapped back to a 16-point lead with just under 11 minutes remaining. One last push made it a five-point game at the six-minute mark, but it wasn't enough as the Hawks held on for the victory.

Junior Jevin Sullivan recorded a game and career high with 27 points. His aggressiveness towards the rim earned him 15 free throws where he knocked down 13 for 86.7%. Reedus notched 20 points for his third 20+ point GLVC game of the season off 70% shooting. Brandon Moore added another double figure game of 12 points with an efficient 62.5% FG percentage.

The team now returns home for two games in the Meyer Wellness Center. They head into this with a perfect 5-0 record protecting home court. The first of these games will be on Thursday, January 8th against Lincoln University at 7:30 p.m.
