Pittsburg, Kan. – The men's track and field team of Southwest Baptist University took the trip West to Pittsburg, Kansas to compete in the Rumble in the Jungle D2 Invitational. The Bearcats collectively took seventh place at the meet with a total of 24 points.
Junior
Angel Dickerson claimed first place in the long jump, going a distance of 7.39m and earning himself a national mark. This distance was good enough to break SBU's school record, which was previously set by Dickerson just a month prior. Freshman
Morgan Nichols set a school record of his own when he took ninth place in the weight throw, reaching a distance of 16.86m. The record at SBU for the weight throw had been untouched for five years before Nichols' performance.
On the track side, several Bearcats were able to earn points for their team, including senior
Gavin Duchscherer. Duchscherer placed fifth in the 3000m run with a time of 8:33.76. The quartet of Dickerson, freshman
Cade Nold, sophomore
Jordan Noel, and freshman
Hunter James also put in a solid performance in the 4x400m relay, finishing seventh with a time of 3:21.17. Nold and junior
Kaleb Nail also earned a point for SBU by finishing eighth in the 800m run and 1 mile run, respectively.
The Bearcats will return to action in one week for the Washburn Open, which will take place across Friday, January 30 and Saturday, January 31 from Topeka, Kansas.
