Pittsburgh, Ks. — Southwest Baptist University's men's and women's track and field teams are excited to hit the ground running this Friday, January 23 at Pittsburg State University for their second meet of the semester after an outstanding opening meet at Mizzou. With the Bearcats earning three separate national marks at Mizzou, the energy moving into Friday's meet is high.
At Mizzou last week, the Bearcats had an impressive showing. The women's team secured 15 top ten finishes with four separate podium standouts:
Laura Dixon in the 400 meter with a first place finish,
Stephanique Dean in the 200 meter and
Lily Simmons in the high jump each with a silver, and
Natalie Gerdes in the 3000 meter with a bronze. The men's team had 19 top ten finishes as well including an 800 meter bronze finish by
Cade Nold, a silver finish by
Angel Dickerson in the 60 meter, and a gold to
Ellis Joslin in the pole vault.
This weekend's meet is hosted by Pittsburg State University, in Pittsburg, Ks. The Bearcats will face off against the Pitt State Gorillas, a perennial top track team, as well as 13 other teams including conference rival Drury University. The field events will start in the afternoon at roughly 12:30 p.m., followed shortly by the track events beginning around 2 p.m.
