Dallas, Tx. - The SBU women's volleyball team began their 2025 campaign Friday with a two game slate down in Texas. The Bearcats split the day defeating St. Edwards University in game one and falling two the host Dallas Baptist in game two. That moves them to 1-1 on the season.

Game 1: SBU defeats St. Edwards 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 29-27)Â
It was an exciting start to the season for Southwest Baptist as they completed a sweep against the Hilltoppers. The Bearcat service was the highlight of the game completing 11 aces, seven more than their opponents. Five of those aces came from freshman
Gabriela Dupree, as she also led the team in kills with 11. Just behind her was junior
Hannah Jackson with nine kills off her 17 attacks for a .412 hitting percentage. Fellow junior
Rory Stanley also had an impressive hitting percentage of .429 with her four kills.Â

Game 2: SBU falls to Dallas Baptist 0-3 (14-25, 20-25, 17-25)
The second game of the day was against the host of Dallas Baptist and Nationally recognized in the NCAA Coaches Poll. Despite struggling in the first set, the Bearcats held the lead for the majority of set two before the Patriots powered back. For the second game in a row, SBU led their opponents in aces with six from
Katie Pogue(2),
Julia Marinesi (2),
Allie Hawk (1), and
Grace Whalen (1). Freshman
Aubrie Fellmeth led the team in points with seven, all coming from kills.

The Bearcats will return to action Saturday morning with another doubleheader day. The first game will be at 9am against Minnesota State University Moorhead with game two taking place at 4:30pm.
