Edmond, Okla. - The SBU men's swimming team competed in their first ever meet as a program Saturday afternoon in Oklahoma. Some stellar marks were hit by the Bearcats as they finished in 4th place overall with a total of 370 points, not far behind the third-place team.
About midway through the meet, Bearcat history was made as
Vincent Hagar is the first ever SBU swimmer to win a race. He took down the 200-meter fly by swimming a time of 1:55.04. Though records are just being made and will continue to be broken throughout the growth of this program, no one will ever be able to take this incredible accomplishment away from
Vincent Hagar.
Another strong performance from this meet came from the likes of sophomore
Ian McCorkle. He started out the day helping the SBU 'B' relay team finishing 4th in the 200-yard Medley, where he swam the breaststroke leg of the race. Shortly after, he nearly collected a win as McCorkle took 2nd place in the 200-yard free with a time of 1:42.30. He also took 6th place in the 500-yard free and helped the SBU 'A' 400-yard free relay team to a 4th place finish
After an incredible first race of the program, the Bearcats will get some time off before their next meet. This will take place on Friday October 10th at William Jewell University as they compete against William Jewell and Missouri S&T.
