Searcy, Ark. - Southwest Baptist women's volleyball finished the Harding Invitational with two games against Kentucky Wesleyan and University of Arkansas-Fort Smith. Neither game went the way of the Bearcats as they move to 3-8 on the season.
Game 1 vs Trevecca Nazarene: Loss, 1-3 (20-25, 25-21, 21-25, 19-25)
After dropping the first set of the match, the lady Bearcats battled back in the second, winning 25-21. This set featured an 11-1 run as they trailed 14-20, but went on a tear to finish the set. During that momentum, junior
Hannah Jackson recorded four kills, with the final point of the set coming from a
Katie Pogue ace. The momentum did not carry over into the final two sets of the game.
Junior
Rory Stanley put up impressive numbers on the game recording 10 kills with a stellar .643 hitting percentage. She also tagged along two solo blocks and three assists.
Gabriela Dupree led the team in kills with 17 along with 15 digs for a double-double.
Chloe Chafins had four serving aces with her 20 digs.
Game 2 vs Arkansas-Fort Smith: Loss, 0-3 (19-25, 24-26, 20-25)
The second game of the day was a close match but did not go the way of the Bearcats. All three sets were close, but the closest came in the second set which featured a 7-2 run for a 16-13 lead. After a few runs by Arkansas-Fort Smith, they secured the set win. Dupree led the team in kills with 12 with her three serving aces. Jackson was behind her with six kills and half a block.
Allie Hawk led the team in assists with 17 on the game.
Southwest Baptist ends non-conference play for the time being as they begin GLVC play this next weekend. They'll start on Friday, September 26th at 6:00pm against McKendree University.
