Pueblo, Colo. – The SBU women's track and field team began the NCAA Division II track and field championships Thursday evening. The Bearcats competed across two events qualifying for the finals in both events.
The first group to compete was the 4x100-meter relay comprised of
Laura Dixon,
Collinique Farrington,
Stephanique Dean, and
Brianna Lord. They ran a time of 44.86 seconds beating their own school record they set earlier this year. They are the first SBU 4x100-meter relay to make it to the NCAA finals since 2021. The group will now compete in the finals on Saturday at 6:10pm.
Just an hour later
Collinique Farrington dominated the 400-meter dash preliminary race. Breaking another school record, she ran a time of 51.57 seconds holding the fastest time on the day beating out every time by more than .6 seconds. That time beat the prior SBU record by nearly a full second that had been held since 2017. Farrington will look to claim her first National title in the 400-meter finals on Saturday at 7:20pm.
Farrington will continue her Championship experience on Friday in the 200-meter dash with the preliminaries at 6:30pm. A few hours later, she will run in the 4x400-meter relay preliminaries with her 4x100 teammates of Dean, Lord, and Dixon at 8:50pm. In between these two events, Parker Love competes in the 200-meter dash preliminaries at 6:45pm.
