Box Score Springfield, IL - The SBU women's tennis team competed in the quarterfinals of the 2025 GLVC Women's Tennis Championships on Friday, May 2nd, defeating the Bearcats of McKendree University 4-0. 
 
In the doubles battle, SBU took care of business right away as Paula Ballesteros and Defne Ursane won 6-0 in the #1 spot and Polina Paunova and Leticia Luiz won 6-3 in the #2 spot. In the #3 spot, Maria Clara Zotti and Giselle Garcia had a comfortable 5-3 lead before the match remained unfinished due to the doubles point being clinched by SBU. 
 
To start of the singles action, Paula Ballesteros made quick work in the #1 spot by winning 6-1, 6-0. Securing SBU's second point in singles, Maria Clara Zotti won 6-1, 6-3 in a quick matchup in the #6 spot. In a three-set thriller, Giselle Garcia pushed the Bearcats of SBU into the second round of the tournament by winning 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 in the #5 spot. In the #4 spot, Leticia Luiz was in the lead (3-6, 6-3, 5-4) in her tight matchup before it was abandoned due to SBU capturing the victory. Defne Ursane (1-6, 6-4, 4-5) and Polina Paunova (7-5, 5-6) also ended their matches early. 
 
SBU will look to carry this dominance into round two of the tournament tomorrow at 9 AM against the Rockhurst University Hawks
