Gulf Shores, AL.- The SBU Beach Volleyball Team went 1-1 on Day 2 of the AVCA Small Collegiate Championships. They fell to Tusculum University and beat Wingate University. This win against Wingate just secured that this 2025 team has made program history as the most wins in a single season after moving to 9-15.
 
Game 1: Tusculum University (L, 0-3)
Starting off the day for the Bearcats Carlee Lill and Lexie Schauffler as the #1 team fell in their match with a super close first set (19-21, 13-21). The #3 team with Addi Fanning and Ryan Russell also were defeated in a tough two sets against their opponents (15-21, 16-21). Then after a hard first set, Rory Stanley and Kynzie Lilly as the #4 team almost came back in the second set, but ultimately fell short as they went into extra points (6-21, 20-22). The #2 and #5 teams did not play out their games since Tusculum clinched with the first three games in their favor.
 
Game 2: Wingate University (W, 3-0)
The Bearcats answered back in the second game with a sweep over Wingate, also recording their first win of the tournament. The #3 team with Russell and Fanning had an easy two set win over their opponents (21-17, 21-10). Next up Lilly and Stanley as the #4 team also dominated in their game, easily winning their two sets (21-14, 21-11). For the Bearcats to ensure the clinch over Wingate, Logan Drennan and Madison Satterly as the #5 team won their two-set match (21-18, 21-18). The #1 and #2 teams did not finish their games thanks to the other three teams securing the win for SBU.
 
The Bearcats will finish out the Championships by playing in the Bronze bracket Saturday morning. Their first game will be the quarterfinals against McKendree University at 7:30am. If SBU wins that match they will advance to the semifinals to play Emmanuel University at 9:50am.
