Jefferson City, MO - The SBU softball team carried over their success from yesterday and turned it into more success with a sweep of the Lincoln University Blue Tigers, bringing them to 10-12 (4-0 GLVC). This is the best start to conference play for the Bearcat softball team in over 25 years.
Game 1: W, 4-3
Senior Audrey Rahlmann got things started for the Bearcats with a 1st inning 2-run double that scored Keeley Elsea and Angie Micone. After the Blue Tigers tied it up in the 4th, SBU quickly answered with an RBI from Elsea that scored Kate McConville and an RBI single from Junior Graccee Godfrey, scoring Micone. Both Micone and Kaitlyn Ragsdale added some pressure on the base-pads, each finishing with a steal.
Starting pitcher Emma Kreisel secured the win, going five strong innings and only giving up 6 hits. For the second straight game freshman Abby Leer showed ice in her bones coming in to finish the final two innings, this time earning her first save of the season.
Game 2: W, 5-3
Lincoln brought a 2-run lead into the 4th before the Bearcats tied it on an RBI triple off the bat of Emily Titus and a passed ball that brought her home. Both McConville and Ragsdale added two more runs in the top of the 5th. SBU added an insurance run in the 6th when Senior Margo Frossard scored as Lexi Detwiler stole second. Reagan Echelmeier paced the Bearcats in hits for the game, going 2-2 with one walk.
On the mound, Paige Leithead threw for 4.1 innings only allowing four hits and two runs while throwing two strikeouts. Her great pitching was followed by Shalie Wooden who threw for 2.2 more innings finishing out the game earning her first save of the season.
SBU currently sits atop the standings of the Great Lakes Valley Conference with a perfect 4-0 record. They are the only undefeated team remaining, who has played a game. will bring their 4-game win streak home next weekend as they play host to the University of Illinois-Springfield Prairie Stars on Saturday, March 15th at 12 & 2 PM.
