Bearcats Break 4 School Records at Annual Home Invite

3/29/2025 11:11:00 PM

Bolivar, Mo. – It was a special home meet for the SBU women's track field team as they broke four school records. They took 2nd place at the meet only falling to Division I Missouri State.

It was the relay teams that highlighted the day for Southwest Baptist. The 4x100 meter relay got things going early running a 45 flat breaking a school record and running a National mark. That team, comprised of Stephanique Dean, Laura Dixon, Brianna Lord, and Collinique Farrington also has the fastest time in the Nation. One school record wasn't enough for those four as in the last event of the day, the 4x400 meter relay, ran a 3:39.04. That beat out the old school record by .39 seconds that was ran in the 2017 National Championships. Their time is also the fastest in Division II at the moment.

In between the two events, Farrington wasn't happy with her old 200-meter record, so she broke it again, this time running a 23 flat, beating her old one by .25 seconds. That time is also currently second fastest in the Nation. Her dynamic duo Stephanique Dean took 2nd place in that event with 23.41, the second fastest in SBU history. Dean about stamps her ticket to Nationals with the 5th fastest time in the country.

Two more school records were broken in the same event over at the Javelin pit. Alexis O'farrell threw a 47.67 meter javelin, setting the new SBU record and sits at 5th farthest in DII. Her teammate and former record holder, Savannah Manthey, set a new personal record with a throw of 47.06 meters for the 8th farthest throw in the Nation.

Another 1st place finish came on the track from freshman Kadence Wallace. She ran a 2:18.78 in her very first college 800-meter run, beating out her high school personal record by over 10 seconds.

When asked about the weekend this is what Head Coach Corey McElhaney had to say "I would say Blessed!! I want to give a shout out to the best janitors and grounds crew anyone could ask for. Great help from other teams on campus and to our administration and sports media team trying to make our team feel special at their only one home meet. I cannot say enough about my coaches and athletes. They work so hard and give God the glory! What else could a head coach ask for! We had some amazing marks and numerous personal bests but at the end of the day we could not do any of this without God and His grace!"

Southwest Baptist will return to action next Saturday as they compete at Pitt State.
