Indianapolis, Ind. – The SBU women's track and field team finished the GLVC Championships Sunday afternoon. Numerous top-three finishes across the board led the Bearcats to a 4
th place finish, extending their streak of top four finishes since joining the GLVC. The Bearcats also won the overall team sportsmanship award.
The meet was highlighted by junior
Collinique Farrington who continued to stamp her name as the Queen of the track in the GLVC. She earned her second straight indoor track athlete of the year award winning both events she competed in individually. Her first gold of the day came in the 400-meter dash, winning it for the second straight year with a mark of 54.18 seconds, beating her season best by one second. She also took 1
st in the 200-meter dash, again for the second straight year with a mark of 24.10.
Her sprinting duo in
Stephanique Dean was right behind her in the 200-meter dash, taking second place with a time of 24.32. Earlier in the meet Dean took 3
rd place in the 60-meter dash, just missing out of 2
nd place by 2 1,000
th of a second.
Taking the first medal of the day was freshman
Jaynae Pinder with a 3
rd place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.01 seconds. The final medal of the day went to the Bearcat 4x400-meter relay team with a second-place finish beating their own GLVC record that they had last season. That relay team comprised of Farrington, Dean,
Laura Dixon, and
Brianna Lord.
Now a few members of the team will await the qualifiers for the indoor National Championship to take place in two weeks.
Collinique Farrington and
Stephanique Dean will be a couple Bearcats seeking a spot at the National Championship.
