Richardson, Texas. – The SBU women's tennis team returned to action Monday afternoon in stellar fashion, sweeping University of Texas-Dallas 7-0. By extending their winning streak to four they move their record to 5-2.
In doubles action, the Bearcats dominated action taking all three spots earning the point. At the #1 spot,
Paula Ballesteros and
Defne Ursane took down their opponents 6-3. Mariz Clara Zotti and
Giselle Garcia had the same score line at the #3 spot clinching the point for SBU.
Polina Paunova and Letica Luiz had the closest match but still won 6-4 at the #2 spot.
The singles matches were just as easy for the Bearcats as they had a complete dominant sweep over Comets winning in all six singles matches in just two sets. Ballesteros remained at the #1 spot defeating her opponent 6-3, 6-4. Three Bearcats allowed their opponents to win less than three sets throughout the entire match. Ursane at the #2 spot won (6-2, 6-1), Paunova at #3 won (6-0, 6-3), and Clara Zotti had the biggest win of them all (6-2, 6-0). The #4 and #5 spot matches were a bit closer but still easily won by the Bearcat players. Luiz defeated her opponent (6-3, 6-4), at the #4 spot, then Garcia won each set 6-3 at the #5 spot.
The team will continue their road trip on Wednesday, March 12
th as they take on Cameron University. This will take place in Lawton, Oklahoma at 1:00pm.
