Box Score Lebanon, Il. – SBU's Women's Tennis team completed a perfect weekend road trip with another win this time against McKendree. SBU won in dramatic fashion with a close score line of 4-3. This weekend's 3-0 record from the Women's Tennis team brings their overall record to 4-2.
SBU dominated in the doubles matches with both
Leticia Luiz and
Polina Paunova in the #2 spot and
Giselle Garcia and
Maria Clara Zotti in the #3 spot picking up 6-2 wins over their opponents. These wins guaranteed SBU the doubles point, so the match in the #1 spot remained unfinished.
Paula Ballesteros started off the singles matches with a dominant win in the #1 spot for SBU (6-2, 6-3). McKendree then responded with wins in the #2 spot, #3 spot, and #4 spot.
Garcia was able to even out the score again in the #5 spot with a thrilling match to three sets, winning with scores of 5-7, 6-3, and 1-0. This left the fate of SBU's perfect weekend in the hands of
Clara Zotti in the #6 spot. The first set was closely contested with
Clara Zotti coming out on top 7-6. The second set went less favorably for the SBU athlete, finishing 1-6. In the third and final set,
Clara Zotti was able to get the better of her opponent in a long tie breaker winning 17-15, earning the victory for SBU.
SBU's Women's Tennis team will take a well-earned two-week break before returning to action on Monday, March 10. They will be facing off against UT Dallas in Richardson, Texas.
