Box Score St. Louis, MO.- The SBU Women's Tennis team defeated Maryville University on Saturday 5-2. This puts them to be 3-2 for the season.

The Bearcats dominated on all fronts in today's matchup against Maryville. They started off securing the doubles points.
Paula Ballesteros and
Defne Ursane on the #1 doubles team kicked off the game, winning their match 6-3. The #2 team with
Leticia Luiz and
Polina Paunova struggled in a tough matchup dropping it 3-6. However, the #3 team with
Giselle Garcia and Maria Faria Zotti bounced back for the overall doubles win, defeating their opponents 6-4.

After a successful doubles round, the Bearcats continued to overpower Maryville in the singles matchups. Ballesteros started off the singles round in a quick two set win in the #1 spot (6-2, 7-5). Then the next two games were also two set wins by the Bearcats. In the #2 spot it was Ursane winning (6-3, 7-5), then Paunova as the #3 easily defeating her opponent (6-4, 6-2). However, for the next two games Maryville pushed back and started to gain momentum winning the #3 and #4 in two sets each. Luiz in the #4 spot dropped the game with a very close second set (1-6,6-7) and in the #5 spot Garcia falling to her opponent (1-6, 4-6). Nevertheless, SBU finished strong with Faria Zotti coming in clutch, winning the last game in an easy two sets (6-2, 6-3).

SBU will stay on the road for one more game this weekend, traveling to Lebanon, IL. to play McKendree University on Sunday, February 23 at 9:00 am.
