Beach Volleyball Triumphs Over McKendree to Claim 1 Win on the Day

Ozark, Mo. – The SBU Women's Beach Volleyball team continued their first weekend in season going 1-2 with three matches Saturday at their home court in Ozark.

The Bearcat's played the first game against the Park University Pirates, falling 1-4. Chandler Lawrence and Lexie Schauffler on the #1 team championed over their opponents. Dropping only the second set, the team dominated in the first and third sets (21-14, 16-21, 15-12). Reagan Hoerning and Carlee Lill as the #2 team fought hard but ultimately fell to the Pirates (14-21, 12-21). While Park University defeated the Bearcats in the rest of the matches, the #3, #4, and #5 teams started to make a comeback in the second sets. Ryan Russell and Addi Fanning lost to the Pirates in two sets (12-21, 13-21). On the #4 team, Madison Satterly and Logan Drennan stepped up their game after a slow start to lessen the gap with the Pirates in a close second set (14-21, 19-21). The Bearcat's #5 team with Briley Bagley and Dylan Cochran were defeated in both sets (15-21, 16-21).
 
After a slow start in the first game, SBU triumphed 4-1 over McKendree University. The #1 team lost their match to McKendree, winning the first set but dropping the second and third (21-18, 15-21, 9-15). For the rest of the game, the SBU Bearcats dominated over their opponents with the #2, #3, and #4 teams sweeping in their matches. The #2 team beat their competitors in two sets (21-13, 21-7). Following suit, the #3 team prevailed over McKendree (21-9, 21-8), and the #4 team secured their win in both sets (21-13, 21-8). Wrapping up the day with a game winning victory, the #5 team battled hard in a close first set but defeated McKendree in the following two sets (17-21, 21-14, 17-15).
 
Despite their best efforts, SBU lost 0-5 to the Lindenwood University  in their final match of the day. The #1 team fell to the Lions (14-21, 13-21). The #2 team dropped the first set, made a comeback to win the second set, and battled closely with their opponents in the third set (11-21, 21-16, 15-17). Then, starting with a close first set, SBU's #3 team lost to the Lions (17-21, 14-21). The Bearcat's #4 team was defeated after two very close sets (20-22, 17-21). Finally, the #5 team fell to Lindenwood (10-21, 10-21).
 
The Bearcats return to the Volleyball Beach Ozark Facility on Friday, February 28, where they battle against Missouri State University at 9 a.m. and the University of Central Arkansas at 1 p.m.
