Box Score Springfield, Ill. – The SBU men's tennis team returned to action Friday afternoon as they defeated Illinois-Springfield 6-1, improving to 2-2 on the season.
It was a clean sweep for the Bearcats in the doubles point winning all three spots. It started with a close #1 match with Juani Morresi and
Marcio Silva narrowly escaped their opponents winning 7-6. At the #2 and #3 spot, both scores ended in a Bearcat win 6-4.
Alejandro Bravo and
Bojan Radoman were at the #2 and Alejandro Beneyto and
Federico Riolo were at the #3.
Momentum continued to favor Southwest Baptist as they secured the match win in quick fashion. At the #1 spot, Silva had to battle his opponent in three sets but won the third cleanly 6-0. Beneyto and Radoman clinched the win for SBU defeating their opponents in two sets at the #2 and #3 spot respectively. At the #5 spot Bravo dominated his foe defeating him 6-1 and 6-2, earning another point for his team. The 6
th and final point was won in a battle by Riolo at the #6 spot coming back from down a set to win in the third. Morresi was the only Bearcat to fall, narrowly losing in the third set at the #4 spot.
Southwest Baptist will be back in action Saturday afternoon as they take on another GLVC opponent in a non-conference bout in Maryville University. That game will take place at 2:45pm in St. Louis, Missouri at the Vetta Sports complex.
