Maryville, Mo. – Just before Christmas break the men's track and field team got to compete in their first meet of the 2025-26 campaign. Many Bearcat newcomers came up big in the meet between school records and National marks.
 
The highlight of the day came from junior Angel Dickerson who broke an SBU school record in his first meet as a Bearcat. In the long jump, he hit a mark of 7.25-meters for 2^nd place and a National mark.
 
Sophomore Marcus Jones returned with two incredible races in the 200-meter and 400-meter dash. In the 400-meter he took 1^st place and hit a National mark with a time of 47.53, second best in school history. A little bit later Jones took also took first in the 200-meter dash along with a National mark with a time of 21.53, 3^rd best in SBU history.
 
Early in the day, freshman Justin Brown stamped his name in the SBU track and field legacy with a National mark in his first race as a Bearcat. He took 2^nd in the 60-meter preliminaries with a time of 6.82 seconds, 5^th best in SBU history.
 
Two field members of the teams had big showings putting their marks at 2^nd best at SBU in their respective events. Ellis Joslin had a mark of 4.65-meters in the pole vault, 2^nd at the meet. Freshman Morgan Nichols threw 16.42 meters in the weight throw for 7^th place.
 
That meet will be the last for this team in the year of 2025 as the head into winter break. They will look to return to these spotlight moments on January 16^th in the Showme ShowDown in Columbia, Missouri.
