Jefferson City, Mo. – The SBU men's basketball opened conference play against a tough opponent in the reigning conference champions of Lincoln University. The Bearcats were unable to complete the comeback as they fell to the Blue Tigers 68-77, moving them to 3-3 (0-1 GLVC) on the season.
It was a slow start for the visiting team, as Lincoln got off to an early 12-point lead. The battle back pursued from there as SBU brought the score to within one with just under four to go in the 1
st half. Heading into half two, the Bearcats trailed by seven keeping the game within reach until they made it just a one possession game with 13 minutes to go. Southwest Baptist weren't able to the cut into the lead further, as Lincoln pulled away with a conference opening win.
Junior
Zac Reedus has a career game with and SBU high 22 points shooting 58% from the field with many impressive finishes around the rim. Off the bench,
Jevin Sullivan scored a team second 12 points shooting 83% from the field. Sophomore
Barron Silsby also notched double digits with 10 points.
As a team, SBU out rebounded Lincoln 31 to 28, redshirt sophomore
Tyler Franklin lead the way with nine total rebounds.
Sasha Glushkov added on six and Sullivan had five. There were 13 total offensive boards that led to 14 second chance points, five more than their opposition.
Coming up for Southwest Baptist men's basketball is the old-time rivalry against Drury University. The next version of this 50+ year edition takes place Monday evening in the Meyer Wellness Center at 7:30pm.
