Bolivar, Mo.— Southwest Baptist University's football team returns from their short trip to Jefferson City with a win, continuing their perfect record on the road so far this season. The team now has a season record of 3-2 and 2-1 in the GLVC. They gear up to take on McKendree for homecoming weekend and secure their first home win of the season.
SBU's game against Lincoln ended as a dominating 50-21 win for the Bearcats. The Bearcats scoring came from a variety of athletes, with six different Bearcats scoring a touchdown in the game, showing the high power offense this team possesses. The SBU offense is 14th in the Nation in scoring and 17th in total offense. The TD's came from
Jaron Saunders,
Kamau Ransom,
Avery Lambert,
Jeremiah Horn,
Isaac McIntosh, and
Jed Brandon. Junior quarterback
Jaron Saunders threw for two second half touchdowns and rushed for another to lead the team in purple to a 29-7 second half scoreline and clinch the victory over the Blue Tigers.
The standout from last weekend's game was graduate student
Jed Brandon's GLVC Defensive Player of the Week performance. Brandon was responsible for the fumble recovery and touchdown on the game's first play. He also recorded seven tackles and led a defense responsible for 13 total points in the game.
The touchdown from Ransom helped him pull away as the sole leader in scoring in the GLVC with 9.6 points per game and receiving touchdowns. He also sits at 3rd in the Nation (D-II) in receiving touchdowns with eight. With the 73-yard receiving TD from Lambert, he now leads the entire Nation (D-II) in yards per reception with 26.5 per catch. Other big numbers this season come from quarterback Saunders who is 8th in the Nation in passing TD's (D-II). On the defensive side of the ball
Caleb Saner is racking up big numbers with 2.2 tackles for loss per game this season, which is 3rd in the Nation (D-II).
SBU moves their attention to homecoming weekend where they will be taking on the fellow Bearcats of McKendree University on Saturday, October 11 at 1:00 p.m. McKendree is 2-3 on their season after starting 0-3 but rebounding with a two game win streak over the last two weeks. They are most recently coming off a close 24-21 win over Quincy. McKendree currently sits last in the GLVC in offensive points per game with 24.8. In contrast, SBU sits second in the GLVC with an average of 38.0 points per game. Southwest Baptist hopes these numbers and their hard work on the field translate into a big homecoming win with a roaring crowd behind them.
