Bolivar, Mo. — Coming off a great tournament, ending 3-0 and losing only one set, the Southwest Baptist University women's volleyball team is looking to increase their four game win streak in the days ahead.
Last weekend the women's volleyball team traveled 8 hours to Hammond, Indiana to the Midwest Regional Crossover tournament. The Bearcats routed the competition winning 3-1 against Kentucky Wesleyan, 3-0 against Lake Erie College, and finalized the weekend with another 3-0 win against Lake Superior State University.
The Bearcats offense was led by freshman
Gabriela Dupree who totaled 36 kills over the weekend. Freshman
Allie Hawk averaged 1.0 serving aces per set, which was tied for the best out of any individual at the tournament. The defense came in just as dominant totalling 58 blocks over the entire weekend, with junior
Rory Stanley accredited for 17 of those. The team averaged 3.00 blocks per set which was second best. As a team, they led every team at the tournament in opponent hitting percentage, holding their foes to .071% on the weekend.
This weekend the Bearcats face two Great Lakes Valley Conference rivals which starts their gauntlet of eight straight GLVC opponents to end the season. The team kicks off with University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) this Friday at 6:00 in the Meyer Wellness Center. The Prairie Stars sit tied with the Bearcats in the conference standings, making it a vital game for SBU. In recent history, Southwest Baptist have won two straight over UIS. Following that game will be Quincy University on Saturday at 3:00. The Hawks sit near the top of the conference at 4-2, with their only losses being against the top two teams in conference.
