Bolivar, Mo. – After one of the most entertaining games in Plaster stadium history that ended in a heartbreaker for Bearcat football, the team is ready for another road battle. The 40-42 loss against Missouri S&T this past weekend moved the team to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the GLVC, currently tied four 4
th in the conference standings. SBU football now heads back on the road with a perfect 2-0 road record this year.
"We compete to win every Saturday, so losing one, especially the way we did, is tough." Senior captain
Kamau Ransom said. "But win or lose, coach preaches the next game is the most important because it's the next one. We're just preparing every day to go 1-0 on the road this weekend."
SBU has one of the most high-powered offenses in the conference averaging 35.0 PPG (2
nd) and 416.5 YPG (2
nd). This is has come in both the air and, on the ground, but the team is leading on the ground averaging 157.5 rushing yards per game. All three running backs in
Jobe Smith (69.3 YPG),
Shawn Cherry (42.5), and
Jeremiah Horn (31.5) all make contributions to this league leading stat. Even the Bearcat quarterback of
Jaron Saunders adds 15.5 yards of rushing per game.
In the air, Saunders is averaging 249.3 yards per game but has a league leading 12 passing touchdowns. Seven of those have been caught by senior
Kamau Ransom (tied for the GLVC lead) and has 99.0 receiving yards per game (2
nd in the GLVC). Ransom is 3
rd in the Nation in touchdown receptions, 9
th in receiving yards per game, and 9
th in scoring.
Defensively the Bearcats have two Bearcats in the top 3 in the GLVC. Junior
Ricky Woodhouse leads with 47 total tackles on the year, averaging 12.0 per game, currently 4
th in the Nation. Senior
Jed Brandon is sitting 3
rd in the conference in tackles with 35 total and 8.8 per game.
Now the team heads to Jefferson City, Missouri to take on the Lincoln Blue Tigers. They enter this game with the same overall record of 2-2, but 0-2 in the GLVC. After starting out the season 2-0, the Blue Tigers went on to fall their next two conference games against Quincy and Upper Iowa.
