Fayette, Iowa - The SBU football team returned to action Saturday afternoon to battle the Upper Iowa Peacocks. Southwest Baptist fell in the contest by a final score of 2-39, moving them to 3-4 (2-3 GLVC) on the season.
The impenetrable Peacock defense held the SBU offense at bay holding them to no points scored despite 246 yards of total offense. Unable to gather momentum on the offensive side of the ball, the Bearcats still outmatched their opponents in total passing yards with 210 to 170. Senior
Kamau Ransom counted for 100 of those receiving yards with seven receptions.
Bearcat special teams scored the two points for SBU off a blocked field goal by
Charos Sutton then an 86-yard return by
Dominic Tarr-Brooks. Staying on the defensive side of the ball,
Caleb Saner continued to be strong behind the line of scrimmage with 3.5 tackles for loss, three of those as sacks.
Ricky Woodhouse tacked on 13 total tackles, six solo and
Charos Sutton led the team with seven solo tackles.
Southwest Baptist will return to action a week from now back in Bolivar, Missouri. They will host the Truman State Bulldogs on alumni game as they welcome back all former Bearcat football alumni to reunite with each other and enjoy watching the current Bearcats. The game is scheduled to take place at 1:00 p.m. at Plaster Stadium.
