Emporia, Kan. – The SBU track and field team finished their season at day 2 of the track and field National Championships Friday evening. Six total individuals competed on the day capping off an incredible season from the men's and women's track and field team.
Junior
Parker Love began the day running in the 200-meter dash. He finished the race .02 seconds off of qualifying for the finals finishing in 9
th place with a time of 20.86 seconds. Love had the best season of his career winning two titles at the GLVC Championship earning the GLVC Track Athlete of the Year. He also set the SBU record and GLVC record in the 100-meter dash just three weeks ago.
Next for the Bearcats was senior and GLVC track Scholar Athlete of the Year
Lainy Williams. She competed in her third straight NCAA Outdoor Championship running in the 800-meter run. She finished just shy of the finals taking 10
th place with a time of 2:09.21. Williams had a great year winning four total GLVC gold medals. In her career she has also won the GLVC indoor track athlete of the year, which she claimed in 2023.
The final event of the day was the women's 4x400-meter relay preliminaries comprised of
Stephanique Dean,
Brianna Lord,
Laura Dixon, and
Madison Hicks. The team battled against 16 of the Nations best teams' and finished in 14
th place. Numerous of the athletes had a personal best on their splits as they combined for a time of 3:42.68.
