Box Score Bolivar, Mo. – The SBU men's tennis team hosted the #9 NAIA ranked William Woods Thursday afternoon at the John Bryant Tennis Center. The game was suspended at 3-3 as lightning delays prevented the game from finishing. The match ends in a no result, keeping the Bearcats at 6-11 on the season. There are no plans to resume the match at this time.
The Bearcats started the match out claiming the doubles point winning in both the #2 & #3 spots.
Alejandro Bravo Diaz and
Bojan Radoman won their match 6-2, while Youseff Nabil teamed up with
Bryson Crowell for the first time this year winning 6-2 as well.
Freshman
Pedro Pinto stepped up for the cats as he competed in the #3 spot for the first time this season and came out with the victory. He crushed his opponent winning 6-4 and 6-2 in consecutive sets. Shortly after
Bojan Radoman came back from down a set at the #2 spot to win in a tie breaking third set. Playing to 10 points, Radoman was down 4-8 and scored six consecutive points to win 10-8, putting SBU a point away from the win.
The match was tied at 3 a piece and came down to the #5 spot for the decisive point. After Bravo Diaz won the first set 7-6, both opponents continued to battle as the second set was tied at 6-6. The conclusion of that match was temporarily postponed for 50 minutes due to lightning delay. The Match resumed for another 5 minutes before lightning struck again, suspending the match indefinitely.
Southwest Baptist will finish their home season on Saturday as they host rivals Drury University. The match is scheduled to begin at 11:00am at the John Brant Tennis Center. The Bearcats will honor their seniors before the match at approximately 10:45am.
