Box Score 2 Grand Rapids, Mich. – The SBU women's tennis team continued their trip in Michigan Thursday as they took on two more opponents. They split the day moving to 3-10 on the season.
In game one of the day, they took on #29 ranked Tiffin University who had only lost one match on the season. The Bearcats fell 1-4 in that game, with the sole point coming from
Ghada Dirninger who dropped the first set but won the next two 6-1.
Leticia Luiz and
Polina Paunova won their doubles game at the #3 spot, 6-2 but it wasn't enough for SBU to claim the doubles point.
The Bearcats won game two of the day as they took down Davenport University by a final score of 4-2. The Panthers entered the match with an impressive 11-6 record, so it was a big win for Southwest Baptist.
Paula Ballesteros started off the scoring by dominating at the #1 spot 6-3 & 6-0. The #2 spot of
Ghada Dirninger clinched her point in the third set 6-3, then
Elsa Pascual put SBU at match point winning at the #3 spot 6-0 & 6-2. It was
Leticia Luiz who clinched the match for the Bearcats winning at the #5 spot 6-2 in the third set.
Southwest Baptist will conclude their Michigan trip tomorrow as they take on Grand Valley State University in Allendale. Game time is scheduled to begin at 11:00am CST.
