Rolla, Mo. – The SBU women's track and field team began their outdoor season Saturday as they competed at the S&T Invite. The Bearcats Highlighted the day with three 1
st place finishes and six top-3 finishes.
The first Bearcat victory of the day came from true freshman
Savannah Manthey, who not only took 1
st place but also broke a school record in the javelin Throw. Her mark of 43.50-meters was good enough for a National provisional mark and is currently ranked 8
th in the Nation.
Lainy Williams returned to her outdoor prowess as she took 1
st place in the 1500-meter, shortly followed by her partner in crime Alexis Barer who took 2
nd. Barber tagged along with
Stephanique Dean,
Reagan Thormure, and
Sierra Wallace as they took 1
st place in the 4x400. Their time of 4:03.53 was five seconds faster than the 2
nd place time.
Dean had a great mark in the 100-meter dash as she took 3
rd place adding to her top-3 finishes on the day. Lily Simmons had a 2
nd place finish in the high jump, took 4
th in the 100-meter hurdles, and 8
th in the 200-meter dash.
Paige Bradley added to a top-5 finish taking 5
th in the 100-meter hurdles.
The Bearcats will be back in action next weekend as they will compete at the annual Bearcat Invitational. The meet will take place on Friday and Saturday March 29
th & 30
th in Bolivar, Missouri at Plaster Stadium.
