Lincoln, Neb. – The SBU beach volleyball team continued their season this afternoon as they competed against one of the most Nationally recognized volleyball programs in the country. The Bearcats took on University of Nebraska, who was the Division I indoor National runner up this past season. Many of the same girls on the indoor team also compete on the beach team defeating SBU 0-5.
In the #1 spot,
Bailey Lasater and
Chandler Lawrence battled hard against their opponent as they led as much as 13-9 in a set over the Cornhuskers. That same pair had not allowed more than 12 points in a single set this season. The Bearcats were not able to hold onto the lead as they fell in two sets. Gabby Belcher and
Carlee Lill competed at the #2 spot and went back and forth in both sets. In the end they fell 18-21 in each set.
Later in the day Lasater and Belcher paired together to take on the #6 squad of the Cornhuskers in an extra match. The pair fell in set one 17-21. They got off to a slow start in set two, falling behind early 2-11. But the Bearcats did not give up as they came all they way back beating them 21-16 knotting up the match at one set a piece. In the third and final set it was all the Bearcats as a service ace from Belcher gave SBU the 15-4 set win and the match.
Southwest Baptist will return to Ozark this upcoming Friday for another double match at Volleyball Beach Ozark. First they will take on Missouri State University at 9:00am. Shortly after they will take on Oklahoma Wesleyan University for the second time this season at 2:00pm.
