Box Score Springfield, Mo. – The SBU women's tennis team took on the Prairie Stars of Illinois-Springfield in a non-conference matchup earlier this afternoon. The Bearcats picked up their first win of the season as they downed the Prairie Stars 4-3, moving to 1-2 on the season.
The doubles point came down to the wire as both teams split the first two games with SBU's
Paula Ballesteros and
Leticia Luiz winning in spot #3. Then in spot #1 the pair of
Ghada Dirninger and
Elsa Pascual fell 5-7 giving the Prairie Stars the doubles point.
Dirninger bounced back in the singles match dominating her opponent in the #2 spot winning 6-1 and 6-3 evening the match.
Leticia Luiz defeated her opponent in the #5 spot (6-2, 6-1) giving SBU their second point of the match. Soon after Giselle Garica put the Bearcats in match point by only allowing her opponent to win 1 set the entire match.
Paula Ballesteros clinched the win for SBU as the continued to remain undefeated on the season in the #1 spot defeating her opponent in the 3
rd game.
Southwest Baptist will return to action this Saturday as they travel to St. Louis to take on Washington University. The Bearcats will take on one of the top programs in the country beginning at 5:00 pm.
