Women's Track Sweep Top 3 Spots in Mile; 2 National Marks Were Achieved

1/19/2024 9:27:00 PM

Warrensburg, Mo./Pittsburg, Ks. – The SBU women's track and field team continued their indoor season today as they split up competing at two different events. Most of the team went to Warrensburg where they competed in the UCM Invite. The rest of the team traveled south to Pitt. States Rumble in the Jungle.

Two provisional marks were beat in this weekend by two different Bearcats. Madison Hicks hit her first National qualifying mark of the season in the long jump beating her own personal best. Her mark of 5.68 was good enough for 2nd place at the Pitt State meet and put her at the National level. Collinique Farrington improved upon her previous National mark in the 200-meter dash. Her time of 23.99 kept her at 2nd in the Nation but widened the lead between her and the 3rd best in the Nation. She took 1st place and broke a meet record at Rumble in the Jungle with that time.

Bearcats filled the UCM Invite with top-3 finishes including sweeping the mile. Freshman Kiersten Potter led the way with junior Olivia Littleton and freshman Lily Hunsucker close behind as they took 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the mile. Paige Bradley had a day full of events and was able to claim the silver in the 60-meter hurdle. Fellow graduate students Lainy Williams and Alexis Barber battled in the 600-yard run. Barber led throughout most of the race but Williams caught her down the stretch taking home 1st and sending her teammate back to 2nd place. Sophomore Zoe Riggs claimed one of her best finishes in the 800-meter as she took 1st with a time of 2:28.73. The women's 4x400 team took third place, just a few seconds behind the 2nd place team. That team comprised of Alexis Barber, Lainy Williams, Zoe Riggs, and Seirra Wallace.

The full team will travel together next weekend as they head back to Pitt State to compete in the Wendy's PSU Invite. The meet will take place on Saturday, January 27th at the Robert W Plaster Center.
