Bolivar, Mo. - The SBU Men's Cross-Country team kicked off their Fall 2023 season by competing on their own home course tonight at the 2023 Bearcat Invite. The Men's team was able to secure 4th place as they competed against several GLVC opponents including Drury, the University of Missouri-St. Louis, and Missouri S&T.
"I could not be more proud of our groups." Head Coach Corey McElhaney said, "We stuck to our race plans and really focused on group goals throughout the race. They became a better team just learning to race within a team plan."
The men finished with 117 points and 4 points ahead of GLVC opponent the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Junior Evan Smith led the way in 13th place with a time of 20:10 minutes while junior Trevor Maxville had the second fastest time for the Bearcats with a time of 20:33 minutes.
Coach McElhaney adds, "We have work to do but made some big steps in the right direction. Thank you for everyone who came out to support our Bearcats tonight!"
The Bearcats look to improve on their overall team score and continue to improve as they head to Joplin in two weeks to race in the MSSU Stampede.
