Bolivar, Mo. - The SBU women's soccer team kicks off their season this evening with a home game against Harding University. The game will take place at 4:00 PM on the SBU soccer field.
These amazing Ladies have done a great job continuing to push each other and focus on the process of us getting better." Head Coach Stefan Skillman said, "I think we have the making of a good squad that is going to be able to compete in every GLVC match."
The Bearcats returned 22 players from last season including 9 of their top starters. Senior Ashlynn Edison returns between the pipes as one of the top goalkeepers in the conference. The two center backs, Madison Geren (Senior) and Kendal Weiskopf (Junior), that started the most games together look to continue putting the pressure on the opposing offense. Other top returners include Abby Harrison, Ashlynn Robinson, Isabel Schelhammer, Julia Johnson, Madigan May, Sam Short, and Abby Youngblood.
"I am super excited for this upcoming season; we have a strong group of girls this year!" Senior Madigan May said, "We have really focused and put our attention on the process of things this season. I am excited to see how that carries over into the conference season! Roll Cats!
After the Bison this afternoon, the Bearcats will travel to Ouachita Baptist for their sole non-conference game on the road. Then they return for five straight home games, three being non-conference beginning GLVC play against the Greyhounds of UIndy. Despite being picked 12th in the conference preseason poll, the Bearcats star returners and new freshman have battled in the offseason looking to surprise some people.
