Liberty, Mo. – The SBU baseball team concluded their 2023 season yesterday at William Jewell College. The Bearcats could not have finished on a higher note as they run ruled the Cardinals 22-12, ending on a 2-game win streak.
"Just really proud of the team for how they competed this weekend. Our guys never quit playing. They fought hard until the very end. No whining or complaining. That's our mantra." Head Coach
Charles Bradley Said, "Our guys continued to persevere, and we are proud of the way they finished the season. Happy to send our seniors out with a victory against a very good ballclub."
The Bearcat bats caught fire in the final game of the season scoring 22 runs, the most since February 10th, 2017. Eight different Bearcats knocked in RBIs in the game with sophomore
Zeke Skinner hitting in a career high 7.
Skinner went 4-of-5 for an impressive .800 batting average with a home run, triple, and two doubles. He was just a single short of the second SBU cycle in history. On the weekend, he hit three home runs bringing his season total to 12. He also knocked in 50 RBIs and had a season batting average of .367, a team high.
Sophomore
Dean Hagenhoff had the next best batting average with .317 on the season. Once on base, he led the team in stolen bases with 11 not getting caught a single time. Senior
Colby Sneed led the team in on-base percentage (.487) and broke a single season record in hit by pitches (20). Junior
Tremayne Mungin was the only player on the entire team to start and play in all 50 games. He showed why by being clutch hitting two walk off home runs.
"Bearcat Baseball vastly improved offensively from last year to this year. Plate discipline will be a focal point for this coming season. We are a different kind of offense when our hitters know and control the zone. We want our identity as an offense to be tough, mature hitters." -Bradley said.
