Women's Track & Field Collect Five Titles at GLVC Championships

5/6/2023 10:00:00 PM

Rolla, Mo. – The SBU women's track and field team finished the final day of the GLVC track and field championship today. The Bearcats finished the meet in 4th place with 79 points. The lady Bearcats collected those points off five 1st place finishes.

On Friday, Lily Simmons collected her first title of the weekend in the women's heptathlon. Nearly 24 hours later she won her second event of the weekend in the women's high jump with a mark of 1.68-meters, also a National provisional mark. Last year, as a freshman, she took silver in the high jump and improved enough to take gold a year later.

Senior Alexis Barber won her first ever GLVC title in the women's 1,500-meter run, giving SBU their third 1st place finish of the weekend. Her close running partner, Lainy Williams, won her 1st GLVC title in the women's 800-meter run, after taking second the year prior. She had an incredible 'come from behind' victory as she caught her competitor in the final 100 meters.

In the final event of the day, the Bearcat ladies collected their fifth title of the championship. The 4x400 team defeated the eight other schools taking 1st place, the first ever GLVC title in this event. This team was comprised of Lainy Williams, Madison Hicks, Alexis Barber, and Reagan Thormure.
