Pittsburg, KS. – The SBU women's track and field team competed at the 15
th Annual David Suenram Gorilla Classic. Numerous Bearcats competed in the event, with a few getting a top-10 finish.
Juniors
Lainy Williams and
Alexis Barber highlighted the meet for the Bearcats by dominating the 800-meter run. They each defeated 28 other runners taking the top-2 places. Williams took first with a time of 2:12.21, which was also a National Provisional Mark. Barber finished just a second behind her in 2
nd place with a time of 2:13.41.
Both Williams and Barber returned for the last event of the meet to compete in the women's 4X400 meter relay. They teamed up with
Madison Hicks and
Reagan Thormure taking 3
rd place out of 11 teams. This group competed together for the first-time last week at the SBU invitational and improved upon their time from the week prior. Other notable finishes include Lily Simmons taking 8
th in the high jump and
Ellie Kitchin taking 6
th in the 3000-meter steeplechase.
The Bearcats will return to action next week as they compete at the Central Missouri Mule Relays.
