Indianapolis, Indiana. – The SBU men's tennis team battled their rival the Drury Panthers in the semifinals of the GLVC tournament this afternoon. The Bearcats came back from down 1-3 and won the match 4-3 clinching a spot in the GLVC tennis championship game.
The Bearcats won the doubles point winning in the #2 and #3 spot.
Youssef Nabil and
Alvaro Nunez defeated their opponents 6-4 while
Mikar Fisher and
Ilyes Khelifi took down their opponents 6-3.
In singles, the bearcats fell in spots 1 through 3 putting them on the brink of elimination.
Fabian Neff and
Ilyes Khelifi left little doubt of losing as they both quickly dominated their opponents in two sets. It came down to
Alvaro Nunez in the #4 spot to clinch the victory for SBU. He won the 1
st set by a score of 6-2 but was put to the test in the 2
nd set winning on a tiebreaker 7-6.
The Bearcats will look for their 2
nd GLVC Championship in the last three years as they battle the Greyhounds of Indianapolis in the Championship game. The match is scheduled to take place tomorrow, April 23
rd, at 12:00 PM central time. SBU fell to the Greyhounds earlier this season in St. Louis.
