Indianapolis, Ind. – The SBU women's track and field team competed in day two of the GLVC Championship today. The Bearcats finished the championship in 4
th place with 64 total points.
"I am extremely proud of how our teams fought this weekend." Head Coach
Corey McElhaney said, "we showed a lot of heart in the way we competed but are still hungry to do better as a team. We will wait to see if we get a couple of people in nationals while the rest of the team will start focusing on the outdoor season."
Senior
Lainy Williams won the only 1
st place for the Bearcats as she took down all other competition in the mile. She finished with a time of 4:55.34 a full second better than the 2
nd place finisher while hitting a National qualifying mark.
Three other Bearcats also had a top-3 finish today. Sophomore Lily Simmons finished in 2
nd place in the high jump reaching a mark of 1.60-meters.
Alexis Barber and
Lainy Williams added to the Bearcats points in the 800-meter run. Barber took 2
nd place with a time of 2:15.41 and Williams finished right behind her in 3
rd place with a time of 2:17.43.
