Box Score Bolivar, Mo. – The SBU men's tennis team returned to action this afternoon as they hosted University of Arkansas-Fort Smith. Both teams battled hard but the Bearcats won the triller match 4-3.
In the doubles point,
Makary Adamek and
Fabian Neff won their match 7-6. That win wasn't enough as the other two double teams fell to their opponents giving the Lions the doubles point.
In singles, every game went to the third set except one.
Youssef Nabil,
Alvaro Nunez, and
Ilyes Khelifi all won their game in the third set 10-8, 10-4, and 10-3 respectively. Adamek and
Mikar Fisher each lost their singles game 8-10 causing the match to be even 3-3.
It all came down to Junior
Fabian Neff as he took on Nicolas Retamles. Neff edged past Retamles in the first set 7-6 (10-8), putting him one more set away from team victory. A back-and-forth second set came to an even 6-6 tie forcing a game to seven. Neither player backed down, but it was Neff who pulled away with the victory 14-12, giving SBU their third win of the season.
Southwest Baptist will return Friday February 24
th as they take on Wayne State. The match is scheduled to take place at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield at 10:00 AM.
