Bearcats Score on All Sides of the Ball in Final Road Game

Liberty, Mo. – The SBU football team finished their 2023 road season in style as they beat down the Cardinals of William Jewell. The Bearcats collected their biggest win of the season in a 71-3 victory in Liberty, Missouri. With their second win in a row, they move to 4-6 (3-3 GLVC) on the season.
 
It was an easy going 1st quarter for Southwest Baptist as they only led by seven after 15. It was quickly ramped up in the early seconds of the 2nd quarter as they scored their second touchdown of the game. The Bearcats would score four more touchdowns in the 1st half, heading into the locker room leading by 41. Two of those touchdowns were pick 6's by Levi Korir and Brenden Smith.
 
Southwest Baptist did not slow down from their as they scored 30 more points in the game off numerous rushing touchdowns sprinkled in with a 60 yard punt return by Brenden Smith. The Bearcats defense would hold steady only allowing three points in the entire contest.
 
Junior quarterback Collin Sutton had a career high game scoring five total touchdowns. Three of those were passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns. He threw for 225 yards with his longest being 46 and ran for 42 total yards averaging 6 yards per carry.
 
Senior Brenden Smith also had a career game scoring a career high 12 points off touchdowns, one from an interception and one from a punt return. The interception was an 85 yard return, just leading the Bearcats other interception of 81 yards. Smith also contributed four total tackles, with 3 being solo.
 
The Bearcat receiving team marked up 296 yards together as senior Kylan Herrera led the team with 103 yards off 3 receptions scoring 2 touchdowns. Six other Bearcats brought in 20+ plus yards receiving including Regan Wilson (46), Blake Gordon (41), Isaac Scroggins (28), Rodrick Weaver (25), Jalyn Mason (25), Abel Carter (23).
 
Southwest Baptist will finish out their season next Saturday as they host Nationally ranked University of Indianapolis on Senior Day. The Bearcats will honor and recognize 15 seniors just before the scheduled start time of 12:00pm at Plaster Stadium.
