Bolivar, Mo. - The SBU volleyball team returned to conference play today as they hosted their rival Drury Panthers. The Bearcats won the cat fight, defeating their rivals in the 5th set collecting their second straight win over Drury. This is the first time since 1996 that the Bearcats won back-to-back games over their rivals. This win moves them to 14-11 (3-6 GLVC) on the season.
Numerous Bearcats came up clutch for Southwest Baptist in their victory. Sophomore Ella Rademaker reached the 300-kill mark in the season as she led the team with 19 total. She also had a high hitting percentage of .333 too along with one assisted block and two digs. Freshman Rory Stanley had a career high nine total blocks in the game, one being solo and eight assisted. She tagged along eight kills for a hitting percentage of .333.
Sophomore Bailey Lasater reached the 500-assist mark in this game with a team-high 32 assists. Her counterpart Katie Pogue contributed 19 assists and had a double-double with 11 digs. Senior Deryan Simpson had a season high in blocks and kills with seven and nine respectively. Senior Loran Pritchett also had a strong game for SBU with 13 total kills, three serving aces, 12 digs, and two assisted blocks.
With their third conference win of the season, Southwest Baptist sits in 9th place in the GLVC standings. They will look to jump a spot in the standings as they head on the road next weekend. SBU will begin in Liberty, Missouri on Friday night to take on William Jewell with a 6:00pm start. They currently hold a five-game win streak over the Cardinals.
