Bolivar, Mo. – The SBU volleyball team opened conference play today as they took on the Cardinals of William Jewell in the Meyer Wellness Center. The Bearcats won their first conference opener since 2011 winning this match 3-2. With their fourth straight win, they move to 7-5 (1-0 GLVC) on the season.
"The Bearcat volleyball team continued to battle for every point of the match." Head Coach
James Hanger said, "Our opponent played a great game and it was wonderful to see our team continue to fight even when we were down. To win that match is a testament to our Defense and the desire to give our very best."
The Bearcats trailed 0-2 after the first two sets but continued to fight back winning a tight 3
rd set 25-23. They carried that momentum into the final two sets winning 25-21 and 15-9.
Freshman
Bailey Lasater had a career high 35 assists off the team's 52 kills.
Ashley Lasher and
Loran Pritchett continued to have another strong performance combining for 32 of the team's kills.
Aleena Peterson led the team in digs with 23 and in serving aces with 3.
The SBU volleyball team will return to action tomorrow, September 17
th as they travel to Rockhurst University to take on the Hawks in a conference matchup. The Hawks received 53 votes in the latest National poll. First serve is expected to begin at 3:00 PM
